| Thereminists are generally a pretty decent lot. However, we can't vouch for the ability, sanity, or decency of any of any of the people listed below, and we advise that you take the same precautions over meeting people on the internet that you would do in any other circumstance. |

 | Seth W. Colaner | | Description: Seth Colaner, from Springfield, Southeast Ohio, is a composition student at Wittenberg University.
"..my position as lab assistant in our Chowning Lab for Music and Technology led me to the theremin. The lab purchased the Moog Etherwave in the fall of 2002. Since that time, I have studied the instrument on my own as well as conducting a good deal of research about the history and playing techniques of the theremin.
I have been developing my own playing method for about a year. The idea behind my method is that the student must be taught a framework from which he/she can learn any piece of music as well as improvise, rather than attempting to learn each new piece as it comes. In short, I teach principles of how to play the instrument using studies I have written rather than how to play particular pieces. That way the student can learn classical, folk, blues, jazz, rock, or any other genre he/she can come up with using exactly the same technique. I have written down many of my ideas, and I am troubleshooting and further developing these ideas with the students I have been teaching for the last few months.
I have performed little on the theremin, but I have given numerous demonstrations of both the theremin itself and my method. I have also performed in two recitals at Wittenberg University.
I have written fifteen studies, or "etudes" for the theremin. Each is a short piece of music for theremin and piano, and they are progressive, from extremely easy to extremely difficult.
If I had to name the method I teach, I suppose I would call it the "Colaner Method".
